Question for Dr. Levander

I’m really excited about Dr. Levander’s visit to class! I think that we’re very fortunate to be able to have such an accomplished scholar visit our class and talk to us about her work. I thought that the beginning of Dr. Levander’s article was really interesting because the description of the slogans was something I had never heard of.  I also think that the text Imperium in Imperio brings to light a side of Texas history that I personally never learned about. In Texas history, we usually only hear about the Mexicans vs Americans, but the details of who was considered an American can be blurry. My question to Dr. Levander is does this lack of inclusion of African Americans and other races in Texas history contribute to current feelings of oppression?

I think that’s a great question and certainly one which well pertains to our course work thus far

I agree. I feel so nervous about Tuesday’s class. I feel like my input won’t be impressive at all. Haha.

Oh, hush, Kate! Yeah, I feel myself thinking the opposite a lot of the time. So often, when we discuss slavery we think only of blacks and I feel like Mexicans are often left out as well as so many other minorities. But it’s interesting to see the tables turned.
